Η χρήση αρωματικών φυτών για τις εντομοαπωθητικές τους ιδιότητες είμαι παραδοσιακά γνωστή κι έφτασε μέχρι τις μέρες μας.Τα φύλλα κι οι καρποί της μυρτιάς σαν αφέψημα, τους χρησιμοποιούσαν για τις ψείρες.
· Ή πικροδάφνη χρησιμοποιείται για τα ποντίκια. Με τα δηλητηριώδη φύλλα της πικροδάφνης έφρασσαν τις τρύπες των φωλιών των ποντικών, τα οποία, για να βγουν τα τρώνε, δηλητηριάζονται και πεθαίνουν . Υπάρχει βέβαια ένα πρακτικό πρόβλημα: άντε να βρεις τις φωλιές...
· Για τα κουνούπια φύτευαν μερικές ρίζες αψιθιάς σε γλάστρες και τις έβαζαν στο παράθυρο ή στη μπαλκονόπορτα.
· Για τις μύγες βάζουν μερικές γλάστρες βασιλικό.
